What to Expect at SXSW 2016: Retail Addition

in

It’s not breaking news that today’s retail experience is primarily a series of clicks.  Everything from groceries to prescription eyeware to furniture can be “added to your cart.” This brings up a valid question: what is the future of retail?

At this year’s SXSW festival, several panels will be discussing just that. In an age where retail is so digitized, is there even a need for brick-and-mortars? Experts are already weighing in and the answer is yes. The shop experience is indispensable. There is a clear trend with modern retailers of prioritizing their values and culture as part of the in-house experience. There is a sense of community that isn’t always as transparent online, which makes industries like fashion, food, and fitness more approachable. New technologies are allowing companies to personalize the online marketplace for the consumer, but how does that compare to a custom shopping experience in-person?

On the other side of the discussion is the ever-evolving omnichannel experience for buyers. How will the mobile experience influence traditional storefronts? Is there a balance to strive for in order to reach the most people? These are the questions brand ambassadors will be decoding and it’s looking like quite the conversation to be involved in!

Alongside panel discussions will be a major tradeshow, allowing retailers to reach beyond Instagram, blogs and websites. It’s a chance for these companies to harness the emotional connection between their brand and a tangible experience for their customer.
