A Customized Container for Cetco

Last winter we were approached by Cetco Energy Services about creating a mobile trade show display out of a shipping container. The idea was for them to activate the display at various conferences across America. The end result was something pretty special.

Starting with a 20’ decommissioned shipping container as the base foundation, we created a stunning environment that made its debut at the Offshore Technology Conference, May 6-9 in Houston. The custom build included some brand new features that we rolled out exclusively for Cetco:

- New 2nd level decking system that is incorporated into the structure. Previously, when we’d create 2nd level decks, we used an external piece that attached to the roof of the container. This time the decking was part of the structure. This technique further reinforces the structure, utilizes edge-to-edge real estate of the container, and provides a seamless appearance to the aesthetics.

- Composite materials were used throughout the container, for both structural purposes, and interior finishes. This lightened the container by 1000 lbs, reducing logistical costs.

- New latching systems and locking devices throughout the container improved ease of use while also increasing the unit’s security.

- A modular, plug-and-play wall system. Our new wall system can be set up in minutes and stowed away easily. The result is a cool new room enclosure that can be environmentally controlled.

Partner Spotlight: Smith Environmental

At Boxman Studios we take great care in procuring the highest quality decommissioned shipping containers. However, not every container that enters our building is flawless. Containers can be contaminated by odors, allergens, and even mold. Thanks to Daniel Smith, the owner of Smith Environmental Solutions, we have a remedy to this challenge.

On Tour with Dick’s Sporting Goods

We’re proud to announce our collaboration with RetailComm for Dick’s Sporting Goods ‘Be Untouchable’ tour that makes stops in select cities throughout the country from February through May. Our 20′ customized shipping container solution is part of an interactive exhibit for youth baseball and football players that gives the players hands-on experience with select products. We’ll post more about this tour in a few weeks as it moves from West to East across the US.

When we bought our first shipping container back in 2008, we had a hunch that the idea of using intermodal containers for purposes other than their original intent was going to be big.

In Austin with Infiniti and Red Bull for F1

Working with marketing agency Prism, we were recently invited to help Infiniti and Red Bull activate at the inaugural U.S. Formula One Grand Prix held at the $400 million Circuit of The Americas racetrack southeast of Austin, Texas. It was a great activation, and a world-class event. We really love working with innovative people and brands.

A Green Solution for @OfficeDepot

Office Depot, the number one Greenest Large Retailer in America, according to Newsweek Green Rankings, tasked us with creating a trade show booth for them at the 2012 Greenbuild expo in San Francisco. Because Greenbuild is the world’s largest conference and expo dedicated to green building, it was a perfect place to showcase our sustainable solutions.
